Vladimir Putin has invited British Prime Minister David Cameron for an, as he calls it, ‘delicious’ cup of tea. The Russian president hopes to ease the diplomatic tensions caused by the murder of Alexander Litvinenko.
Last Thursday, a UK inquiry concluded Putin approved the London assassination of the former Russian spy. Both the Kremlin and the British government reacted strongly to the report. Putin hopes a convivial high tea will repair ties between the two nations.
“We sincerely value the close ties with the United Kingdom”, Putin stated. “In Russia we prefer to carry on dialogues like this over a cup of tea. Of course Cameron is more than welcome to visit Moscow, but I could also go and see him on British national territory. No problem.”
